'Ten Count' Anime Cancels Production

Unfortunately, this was expected after the production committee delayed the release twice due to their own incompetence. Hopefully some other people will eventually attempt to adapt this. What else have we lost? The Yuri!! On Ice movie and the Tokyo Babylon 2021 series (although if this gets taken away from Studio GoHands, I’d be elated).

@Multilynx Was the Yuri and Victor movie finally cancelled? It seems like I saw questions about the release date a couple of years ago, but then the discussions seemed to stop.

MAPPA’s CEO made comments in July 2023 basically saying that Yuri doesn’t make them much money and they need big hits to grow (yet look how poorly they treated their animators for Jujutsu Kaisen S2). @Multilynx Didn't make much money? But it was one of the main hits of the second half of the 10s. Or has their new dark fantasy line made them so much money that Yuri no longer looks like such a promising banger in comparison?

@RobertBobert Whoever was in charge at the time probably didn’t have enough experience with production committee contracts since they were founded in 2011, so even though Yuri was wildly successful, MAPPA made very little profit from it as I believe they were close to the bottom of the list to receive payments.

It was definitely a learning experience for them. I wish they’d treat the fans better by making the movie they already announced. Maybe they will in 10-20 years after they’ve had some successes growth?

MAPPA’s CEO feeling disappointed by the success of the anime has nothing to do with the rumours of how he treats his animators . What are you talking about ?

They are not rumors, they are facts. Or did you not read about the entire hoopla last year with the many different animators coming forward about the working conditions at MAPPA?

If you want to believe whatever you see on the internet as ''facts'' without confirming it yourself with verified source and not random posts on X it's your choice , doesn't mean everyone will do the same . But this is not the place to debate this . I just pointed that your mindset is wrong due to your overflowing hate for the MAPPA CEO

Not a very impressive warning, lately Japanese fujoshi have preferred to watch BL live actions in the theaters and not anime.

Homophobia is not an explanation for all the things related to the cancellation of an anime, it involves many things.

They realized there are no theaters in Japan where they can possibly show this.

@Absurdo_N a heterosexual shounen anime adaptation would never get cancelled. It would at least have 1 season. This has to be homophobia towards BL. Japan is fine with GL but not BL because the industry is still very male dominated.
